Kinnigoli Parish Celebrates ‘Feast of Nativity’
The feast of Nativity popularly known as ‘Monthi Fest’ among the Mangalorean Catholics, the birthday of Mother Mary, also Known as Family feast, where all the family members gather together at their elders house for a family meal. This feast is known as blessing of the new crop. People thank God for the good rain and for the new crop given to them by invoking his blessing upon it. The nativity feast is celebrated here in Kinnigoli Church. Parishioners gathered at Kinnigoli Church in the morning at 7.45 AM, a procession was taken from the church premises to Kinnigoli Bi-Centenary building where a small religious programme was held in the local language Kannada . Rev.Fr. Sunil Pinto Asst: Parish Priest of Kinnigoli Church blessed the new crop. Fr.Rupesh Tauro, Asst.Parish Priest of Kinnigoli Church read the word of God and gave the message on the occasion. He said that today’s feast is also known as Family feast, where all family members come together to celebrate this feast with the new crop meal. Today’s feast is also dedicated to all women’s as their day. He urged the Parishioners to look after all the females with love, respect and dignity; here MrsLona D’Souza compered the programme.
Procession was taken back to the Church with the new crop. Holy mass was offered. Parishioners brought large number of offerings to thank God for the new crop. After the mass new crop (Novem) was distributed to parish council members and parishioners. Holige and Payasa were served to all the Parishioners. Sugar Cane distributed to children and adults. The members of St, Vincent De Paul Society auctioned the items brought for the offerings; the funds collected from it will be utilized for the betterment of the needy parishioners.
